What are cookies?

Cookies are small data files that are stored on the user’s computer during browsing, and perform various functions, like storing the service login data, collecting statistical information on the visited pages, identifying the browser and device in use, selecting targeted contents and notices that take into account the user preferences, and more.

Cookies can be of different types, according to the data type they store and to how long they are stored on the user device.

Technical cookies (Strictly necessary), used for the sole purpose of “transmitting a notice on an electronic communication network, or to the extent strictly necessary to a provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the contractor or by the user, for the purpose of providing the service in question” (cfr. article 122, subsection 1 of the Code);

The profiling cookies (“Measuring” and “Experience enhancement”), used to trace back to certain persons, identified or identifiable, specific actions or behavioural patterns that recur in the use of the provided functions, to group the various profiles into homogeneous clusters of different size, to ensure that the controller can, among other things, tailor more and more precisely the provision of the service, beyond the extent strictly necessary for the provision of the service, as well to send targeted advertising messages, i.e. messages that are tailored to the preferences shown by the user during browsing.

Cookies can be directly installed by the manager of the site the user is browsing (first party cookies) or, if the site relies on external services to provide certain functions, by third parties (third party cookies).

The friem.com site uses in its pages both technical and non-technical cookies, even third-party, to enhance the site browsing experience, for example by adapting it according to the browser and device in use, selecting the displayed content type, or showing each individual user ads that may be of interest to them.

Browsing the friem.com site pages implies the use of technical and non-technical cookies (the latter also known as “profiling cookies”), first- and third-party, necessary for the provision of the service, used for statistical purposes, for browsing analysis and for the provision of customised services and commercial notices.

When accessing the friem.com site, the banner containing the abridged cookie notice is displayed; by clicking on the relevant “Accept” button, users give their consent to the use of the cookies described in this notice, and implemented in the friem.com site pages. The consent to the cookie activation can be withdrawn at any time.

Closing the banner (by selecting the “Reject” control) will result in the settings keeping their default values; browsing shall then proceed with only technical cookies or tracking tools.

Cookie functions can be directly disabled from the browser in use, by following the instructions provided by the relevant vendors, or using specifically developed software; it should be reminded, however, that disabling the cookies could result in some services not functioning properly, and several functions designed to optimise the site user browsing experience could be unavailable.

Consent to cookie installation can also be expressed by users through specific browser settings. Most browsers allow users to set rules to manage the cookies sent by some sites only, or by all of them; this option provides users with finer privacy control, and allows them to reject cookies, or anyway to change any previous choices.
